That Toyota V-6 will be the top-spec engine at launch. The Emira will use a version of the supercharged 3.5-liter V-6 that powered the Evora. It developed 416 hp in the Evora GT , but has been dialed back to 400 hp for the Emira due to emissions restrictions. Lotus is estimating the least quick Emiras will run from 0-62 mph in less than 4.5 seconds.
The last Lotus sports car sold in North America, the Evora , was exclusively powered by a Toyota-sourced supercharged V-6. That engine option returns with the Emira, joined by a new four-cylinder option from the internal combustion wizards at Mercedes-AMG.
You sure can. Although the AMG turbo-four is only offered with an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic, buyers have more options with the supercharged V-6. Plenty of buyers will opt for the eight-speed auto, but we’re more interested in the six-speed manual, clutch pedal and all.
This is the new face of Lotus mid-engine sports cars: the Lotus Emira . A successor to the Evora , the Emira incorporates a new Lotus design language, more refined interior, and a boosted four-cylinder engine option courtesy of the folks at Mercedes-AMG. Deliveries should begin in the fall of 2022, and we’re expecting prices to start around $80,000. The Emira will compete with other premium sports cars including the Porsche Cayman, Chevrolet Corvette, and Jaguar F-Type.

The turbo-four will serve as the entry-level engine of the Emira lineup.  It’s a turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-four that we’ve previously driven in the Mercedes-AMG CLA 45 and the Mercedes-AMG GLA 45. Although the nuclear four-pot develops 382 hp in the CLA 45 and as much as 416 hp in the Euro-spec CLA 45 S, output is toned down to 360 hp in the Emira. That said, weighing about 110 pounds less than the V-6, the four-cylinder Emira will be the lightest in the lineup, plus it works with Mercedes-AMG’s eight-speed dual-clutch automatic.

No one is buying a Lotus for how much junk you can stuff in the trunk, but a usable cargo area will make a big difference in selling the Emira as more than a stripped-down sports car. Lotus insists the 5.3-cubic-foot trunk will hold a set of golf clubs, and there’s an additional 7.3 cubic feet of space behind the front seats.
Buying a Lotus sports car no longer means settling for some Best Buy-spec infotainment setup. The Emira features a standard 10.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system, complete with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility. A 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster is also standard, as is a 10-speaker premium audio system built in collaboration with British audio manufacturer KEF.
Lotus has built a reputation for itself as an automaker that builds stripped-down, lightweight, minimalist sports cars that prioritize performance and dynamics. That’s all well and good, but it meant cars like the Elise, Exige, and Evora regularly lost customers to more well-rounded sports cars like the Porsche Boxster and Jaguar F-Type. With the Emira, Lotus aims to retain the responsive handling and comfortable ride quality of its previous efforts, with more creature comforts to better compete with the Jags and Porsches of the world. small lotus flower tattoo back of neck
